Oliver Springs Youth Club City Community Center
The Oliver Springs Youth Club is wanting to help build a community center for the town of Oliver
Springs.  We currently do not have enough time and space in order to have enough teams to allow
all of the children who want to the opportunity to participate in our athletic programs.  This, along
with the idea of making our town a better place to live, is why the Oliver Springs Youth Club
started this and will see that this dream will become a reality in the very near future.
What could the town of Oliver Springs use a community center for?

  • We could allow all children the opportunity to enroll in our athletic programs.  This will give our
children something to do and keep them occupied.  These athletic programs can teach our
children how to play sports, how to work as a team, how hard work pays off, how to take pride
in what you do, how to take pride in our town and community, as well as how to handle
success and failure.  Our children can also learn how to be disciplined and how to become
leaders by playing sports.  Not to mention, our programs can give our children something to
care about, exercise,  and will keep them from becoming "bored" and looking elsewhere for
    something to occupy their time.
  • Our senior citizens could use this building for a meeting/gathering place.  Currently, our senior
citizens have no meeting place that they can use.  This can give our senior citizens
somewhere to not only meet, but can be a place where they themselves could have classes
and exercise.  They could also volunteer their time by opening and supervising the children
and gymnasium.  This will give our senior citizens something enjoyable and important to do.
  • Our town has no gathering/meeting place.  We could use this community center for local town
events.  We could also use this community center for other organizations to meet at.
  • We could have somewhere local to rent out for parties, receptions, or other events that our
    citizens may need this for.
  • There are many other uses for this community center that our town needs this for.  A lot of the
potential uses greatly depends on how much money we raise and what we are able to afford
to build.  This is something that is built once a lifetime, so we must raise as much money as
possible and build this big enough to offer our community use of this not for just what we
need today, but for what we may need tomorrow as well.
How are we going to pay for this?

  • The Oliver Springs Youth Club is currently raising and saving money.  OSYC, is a youth club,
much like a "boys and girls club".  Our funds are, of course, limited.  We have many expenses
and have and will always provide our children with the best and safest equipment and
uniforms that are possible.  We take great pride in this.  We have tried our best to budget as
best as possible and have been working as hard as possible to save and raise money.
  • The Oliver Springs Youth Club has approached the Town of Oliver Springs with this idea.  The
Mayor, Chris Hepler, and the City Administrator, David Bolling, have been very supportive of
this community center.  We are unsure of how all of the City Counsel members feel about
this.  We think that some counsel members are for and others are unsure about this idea.
However, the town has around $27,000 budgeted for Arrowhead Park each year and we have
been told that the town will save as much of this as possible to put toward this goal of building
    a community center
  • The Town of Oliver Springs will be applying for a state grant in 2008 which can pay for half of
the total cost of this community center.  Recently, the City of Wartburg received this grant and
used it towards building a gymnasium in a new park that the City of Wartburg built for its'
community.  If we receive this grant, then we will be responsible for paying for half of the total
    cost of the project.
  • The Oliver Springs Youth Club has been selling signs to hang on the ball fields at Arrowhead
Park.  These signs are great for advertising people and businesses that support our youth
club and our idea of having a community center.  All of this money is directly put into our
building fund and will be used for our community center.
  • Oliver Springs Youth Club is saving as much money as possible.  We are also actively having
and looking at fund raisers that will be used for saving money towards this project.
RECENT NEWS AND UPDATES

  • We are currently working on our IRS paperwork in order to get our organization "up to date".

  • Please encourage all Town of Oliver Springs board members to support this cause and to
help us help our town and community achieve this goal in the near future.

  • Please pay your child's sign-up fees and return all uniforms and equipment in order to help us
save money to put into our building fund to help us achieve this goal faster.
What do I need to do?

  • Help.  This must be a community project in order for it to happen.  We need people to gather
support for this.  Please spread the word and tell as many people about this as possible so
we can get our community involved.  We have a link on the right where you can fill out a survey
that the state grant official sent us to show community support and involvement, as well as
ideas.   Please contact our City Counsel members and encourage them to make this
happen.  This would make our town a better place to live for not only us, but would make it a
better place for our children to raise their families in.
  • Believe.  This may sound impossible, but it's not!  This is our town, our children, and our lives.
This is something that we can all benefit from and we all have to support this cause.  The
state will give this money to someone and we are the ones who paid it.  The City of Wartburg
has received this grant.  I know that we can also if we can get enough support for it.  Even if we
do not receive the state grant, then we will still continue to move forward until this becomes a
reality.  This is something that we believe in.  Do you?
  • Give.  It seems that everyone is wanting people to give money.  There are many good causes
that are great for people to give to.  However, all money that is given to this community center,
will directly effect our town and our lives.  Over time, hopefully, we will see some positive
results from some of the programs and activities that we could have by the use of this
community center.  If you choose to give, then please call any of the Oliver Springs Youth Club
board members listed on the home page for more information.
